▪ Initial impression: fresh floral with spice and resinous notes - a true style lavender. ▪ Top aroma notes: sharp pepper, licorice, fresh menthol (mint), crisp pine resin, sweet herbal.▪ Heart aroma notes: rose geranium, powdered violets(hint), neroli(strong), sweet pea, carnations, clove.
Height / Spread: Large Shrub Climate: Cool temperate to semi-arid, full sun, moderately frost-tolerant, drought-tolerant Flowers: Purple, occurring November - February
Mulching required due to extremes of heat / cold. Reacts with vigour when mulched heavily. Harvest is around mid- January. A low flower yield. An old English Lavandin variety, worthy of preservation because of form and chemistry.
“...Aroma soft and pleasant. This field variety was selected by Miss D.G. Hewer (q.v.) of The Herb Farm, Seal in Kent from the village of Hitchin, Hertfordshire, sometime before 1935. RBG Kew was sent herbarium material of 'Seal' ex Miss Hewer in 1935."
